I want to ask you a question. And I want you to be honest with yourself. Do you consider yourself to be a person of integrity?
I would guess the vast majority of us would answer yes to that question.
Let’s look at a definition of what integrity is. Integrity is simply doing the things that we say we are going to do. I listened to an amazing podcast about this topic this week and it was an eye opener.
Here's something that really stood out to me. Most of us consider ourselves people of integrity based on the fact that we do what we say we're going to do for others. If we tell someone we are going to do something for them, we do it. Our beliefs and actions line up when it comes to what we do for others.
Great. Now let’s talk about you. Do you do the things for YOURSELF that you say you are going to do?
“I’m going to stick to my program for losing weight.” How’s that going for you?
“I’m going to put in daily actions to grow my business.” Are you?
I’m not here to question your integrity. I’m here to challenge your excuses. If being a person of integrity is important to you, quit letting yourself off the hook when you aren’t being true to the things you promised yourself.
Know what I’ve learned? More often than not I can’t accomplish the things I promised myself without help. Which is why I believe so strongly in mentorship and coaching. If it was possible to accomplish what you wanted on your own, you would have accomplished it already. We tend to put ourselves last and call it noble because we care so much for others. I call BS.
If we truly want to be people of integrity, then we will be people that surround ourselves with high caliber people that help us accomplish the goals we have for ourselves. We will do the things we say we are going to do. Not just for others. But for ourselves.
